Problem Solving in Mathematics: Are Reading Skills Important?

It is unlikely that a person can solve a verbal problem if he cannot read. It is also well known that there is a significant correlation between reading ability and problem solving. Yet there are at least two major sources of doubt about the contributing effects of general reading ability to problem solving ability.
