Many students have developed the opinion that mathematics is not very useful. It is not surprising in a way, as mathematics is rarely taught with a specific purpose in mind. When pushed by our students, many of us find ourselves giving trite answers to questions such as, “When am I ever going to use this?” Yet, mathematics is useful.
