NCTM Position Statement: Early Childhood Mathematics Education
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics believes that early childhood mathematics education, for young children aged 3-8, should be developmentally appropriate. Developmentally appropriate instructional practices are those in which the mathematics learning environment takes into account the social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of young children.
