Aspects of Numeracy in the Primary Years (K-3): Selected Challenges for Teachers
Werner Liedtke
Information about numeracy is available for teachers, as well as parents. It is referred to in the revised British Columbia Ministry of Education documents, Supporting learning: Understanding and Assessing the Progress of Children in the Primary Program (2000) and The Prima,y Program: A Framework for Teaching (2000). Numeracy is the subject and title of a 1998 pamphlet prepared by the British Columbia Association of Mathematics Teachers (BCAMT). This pamphlet includes the notable statement that numeracy is as important as literacy.
