Imagine a society where toddlers are discouraged from walking. It is strongly advised to keep them in strollers outdoors and in walkers inside the house; children younger than six are rarely seen walking in the street, and even then only when assisted by a parent. Parents who do not follow their kids’ every step, even in their backyard, risk attracting the neighbors’ attention. There are several reasons proclaimed for this: the risk that toddlers will fall and hurt themselves while they are too young to be aware of the dangers around them; even supervised.
