University Acceptance of High School Mathematics in Alberta

The transition between secondary and postsecondary mathematics is a complex process which involves an array of problems and issues that students have to overcome. Some of the issues that students experience transitioning to postsecondary mathematics include “type of mathematics taught, conceptual understanding, procedural knowledge required to advance through material, and changes in the amount of advanced mathematical thinking needed” (Hong et al 2009, 878).
