To quote this year’s Dr Arthur Jorgensen Chair Award recipient, “The power and profound beauty of mathematics and mathematical thinking has never failed to astound me.” A University of Calgary graduate, Merrick Fanning, aims to foster positive conceptions of mathematics, eliminating the existence of society’s negative stigmas, while shifting the paradigm to expose the irrefutable power, beauty and fun that can be found in mathematics. During his practica, he created a reflective space for ongoing professional development.
